Pocket Canal Erosion Repair

This project involves erosion repair and canal lining rehabilitation for Pocket Canal, located approximately one mile west of the intersection of Florin Road and Interstate 5 in Sacramento, California. The work is a renovation/repair project for the City of Sacramento (municipal owner) requiring concrete and excavation trades. The scope includes raising the existing concrete lining within specified sections of Pocket Canal by applying pneumatically applied (shotcrete) Portland cement concrete above the existing canal lining for approximately 150 linear feet, along with excavation, grading, fencing removal/replacement, and water quality control measures. The Contractor may be assessed an administrative penalty for each violation of any provision addressed by this ordinance, unless modified herein, and amount of penalty will be deducted from the Contract.

Alternative De-watering Method at Contractor's Risk

The detail shows the attachment of a work platform near the top of the existing canal lining along with placement of a straw wattles as a preventative water quality control measure. This method is optional and the Contractor may use this approach at their own risk and shall hold the City harmless from and against any and all claims arising by reason of its use. Any damage to existing facilities in the area of work related to use of this alternative shall be the sole responsibility of the Contractor to repair at the Contractor's expense.

Contractor Assumes All Costs for Hazardous Materials Encountered

In the event hazardous or contaminated materials are encountered at the site for which separate handling or removal provisions have not been made in these Special Provisions, the Contractor shall stop work on that item, contact the Engineer and schedule his operations to work elsewhere on the site, if possible. The City will be responsible for handling and removal of hazardous material or may request that the Contractor be made available, through contract change order, to provide additional services as needed for the completion of the work.

Contractor Responsible for All Traffic Control and Public Safety

The Contractor shall be solely and completely responsible for furnishing, installing, and maintaining all warning signs and devices necessary to safeguard the general public and the work, and to provide for the safe and proper routing of all vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the performance of the work. The requirement shall apply continuously and shall not be limited to normal working hours.

Contractor Responsible for Damage to Existing Improvements

The Contractor shall be responsible for repairing damages to existing improvements, including the existing chain link fencing that is removed and re-installed, to their previous condition or better. Bidders shall take note that some portions of the existing concrete lining have significant cracking. Care shall be taken to prevent further degradation of the existing condition.
